Seniors Toby Millward from Bellevue University (Nebraska) and Peter Ruiz from Fisher College (Massachusetts) have been selected the Continental Athletic Conference men’s soccer Players of the Week to begin the September portion of the 2021 season.
Millward, this week’s defensive award winner, assisted on the game-winning goal in Bellevue’s 3-2 overtime victory against William Penn University (Iowa) on September 1. The midfielder also scored twice and added an assist in helping the No. 8-ranked Bruins to a 6-0 victory against Iowa Wesleyan University.
The Kings Lynn, England, native became the third player in program history to reach the 100-point mark by scoring 34 goals and having 34 assists in his career. His first goal of the season – and 34th career goal – moved Millward into a tie for fifth place in the program history.
Millward’s defensive play helped limit the opposition to just 13 shots and three shots on goal for the week.
Meanwhile, Ruiz earned this week’s top offensive honors after scoring a goal and having three assists as Fisher had a 2-1 record for the week. The Santa Barbara, California, native found the back of the net and added two assists in a 4-0 victory against Vermont Tech on September 5.
The forward assisted on the Falcons’ only goal in a hard-fought 2-1 loss at Westfield State on September 2. Ruiz had 10 shots across the three matches.
