A pair of freshmen have been recognized as the Continental Athletic Conference women’s soccer Players of the Week for the second week of the fall season.

Kelly Wallace from Fisher College (Massachusetts) earned the offensive player of the week award after scoring goals and tallying seven points in the first two matches of her collegiate career.

The Hanover, Massachusetts, native assisted on the game-winning goal in the Falcons’ victory against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on September 4. She also had a goal and another assist in the triumph, while hitting the opposing goal post three times in the match.

This followed Wallace having a goal and an assist in the season opener against Husson on September 1.

For the week, Wallace recorded 17 shots, including six shots on goal.

Meanwhile, Georgia Gwinnett College’s Matilda Johansson earned top defensive honors by making seven saves in a shutout against Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) on September 4. The Landvetter, Sweden, native made two incredible saves early in the second half when the match was scoreless and then proceeded to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard for the rest of the match in the Grizzlies’ 2-0 victory.

Johansson’s had her first shutout of the season and GGC’s third shutout of 2021 – accounting for the team’s three victories.
